Nowadays it seems you don’t need to look very far to find Botox® treatments in Cairns. However, as with any cosmetic product or service, finding a solution that meets your needs, desired outcomes and expectations can be a little more difficult.

If you are considering a cosmetic treatment for the first time, you may be surprised to learn that not all anti-wrinkle treatments are equal. First of all, whilst the name Botox® is used interchangeably with ‘anti-wrinkle’, it is in fact just one brand on the market. It’s similar to how people refer to vacuums as Hoovers.

In addition, finding a qualified and experienced cosmetic injector in Cairns that suits you and your desired outcome is not as straight forward as you would think. As anti-ageing treatments have exploded in popularity, it isn’t rare to find unqualified people who have been administering the schedule 4 controlled drug illegally.

So, if you’re contemplating using Botox® for the first time, or even if you’ve been using anti-wrinkle treatments for a while, here’s what you need to know.

It’s all in the name

With the brand name “Botox®” being widely used instead of the generic term ‘anti-wrinkle injections’ some people may assume or expect that every treatment uses Botox. In fact, there are a couple of brands that cosmetic injectors could turn to, Botox, Dysport and Xeomin.

Botox®

Botox® was approved by the Therapeutic Goods Administration as an anti-ageing treatment in 1999, and as such, is synonymous when it comes to reducing wrinkles and lines. Short for botulinum toxin, this protein-based treatment works by blocking messages between muscles and nerves, preventing the muscles from contracting.

However, sometimes clinicians use lesser-known alternatives such as Dysport and Xeomin to try to achieve similar outcomes. Therefore, if you are seeking an anti-ageing treatment, don’t just assume Botox® will be used, you should ask your clinician. It’s important to know what they are going to administer, because there are some key differences between the three brands.

Dysport

Generally speaking, Dysport costs less than Botox® and Xeomin, however typically you will need almost double the units to achieve the same outcome. Clients will also see the onset of results much faster, usually within 24 hours.  Dysport’s molecular weight can vary, meaning it can diffuse into other areas. This may be an advantage for some clients, where ‘spreading’ to cover a large area of tiny wrinkles is desired. However, it can equally be problematic if it causes the brow to droop.

Xeomin

Xeomin is very similar to Botox® in terms of price and number of units required to achieve a particular outcome. Typically, clients will see the onset of results within four days, which is longer than Botox® and Dysport. Whereas Botox® and Dysport have complex proteins combined with the botulinum toxin, Xeomin is pure, reducing the risk of allergic reactions or resistance from the body.

Finding the right cosmetic injector

In Australia, cosmetic injectables such as Botox® and Dermal Filler can only be administered by qualified medical practitioners such as a Registered Nurse or Doctor. Whilst the treatments are relatively safe and have been heavily used for decades, we take our clients wellbeing and desired outcomes seriously. All our clients require a consultation with our cosmetic injectors prior to any treatment and are provided a prescription by our doctor.

Our clients regularly comment on how they value the time we spend discussing their treatment plans and options. Due to the nature of the treatment and how personal the results are, we aim to always deliver the best care with professionalism and integrity. Whether that’s through reviewing side effects or providing follow ups, we constantly ensure our clients are happy with the results.

Our team of qualified nurses has over 30 years’ experience and regularly receive training to ensure we utilise the latest treatments and techniques. If you’re looking for a cosmetic injector in Cairns, you need to be confident that not only are they using the right treatment, but that they also have the correct technique to ensure it is administered correctly. If they don’t, you increase the risk of side effects and disappointment.
